    Milwaukee at Dusk

At the Milwaukee Art Museum for the second time in the last few years, I once again sought out the German artists on the main floor. Richter, Kiefer, Polke and Beuys are well represented in museums across the midwest, and Milwaukee is one of the better showings.

The Kiefer is one of my favorite contemporary paintings, and I've long been grateful to MAM for the generous and fairly intimate space they've afforded this incredible work--I always get the full "WOW" every time I saw it. Which was every time Chicagos Museum of Contemporary Art underwhelmed me and inspired me to make the 1.25 hour drive north to a superior modern art collection. Thanks for posting this--I've since moved to Portland and have missed my semi-annual jaunts to see this stunning painting.
